Job Description

A Research Scientist (Enzyme) is a professional with expertise in enzymes, which are biological molecules that catalyze chemical reactions in living organisms. Research Scientist (Enzyme)s are essential in industries that rely on enzyme technologies, such as pharmaceuticals, food processing, agriculture, and environmental science. Their work involves research, development, and application of enzymes to improve processes, products, and sustainability. Specific job requirements may vary depending on the sector and organization.

Qualification & Experience:
  • Education: A Ph.D. or master's degree in a related field (e.g., Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology) with more than 5 years of experience.
  • Enzymology Expertise: Strong knowledge of enzymology, including enzyme kinetics, mechanism, and classification.
  • Laboratory Skills: Expertise in enzyme-based technologies, including enzyme production, purification, and characterization.
  • Biotechnology: Familiarity with biotechnological processes, especially fermentation and genetic engineering.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to conduct enzyme assays, analyze data, and draw conclusions from research findings.
  • Problem-Solving: Capacity to troubleshoot and optimize enzyme-related processes and applications.
  • Communication: Effective communication skills for presenting research findings, collaborating with colleagues, and interacting with clients.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage research projects, set priorities, and meet deadlines.
  • Computer Skills: Proficiency in data analysis software and documentation tools.
  • Innovation: A creative and innovative mindset to explore novel applications for enzymes and contribute to scientific advancements.
Duties & Responsibilities:

Scope of work includes, but is not limited to the following:

  • Enzyme Research: Conduct in-depth research on enzymes, including their properties, functions, and applications in various fields.
  • Enzyme Production: Develop and optimize methods for producing enzymes through fermentation or other biotechnological processes.
  • Enzyme Characterization: Analyze and characterize enzymes to understand their activity, specificity, and stability.
  • Application Development: Explore and develop new applications for enzymes, especially in industries like healthcare, food and beverage, and biofuels.
  • Quality Control: Establish and maintain quality control standards for enzyme production, ensuring consistency and effectiveness.
  • Enzyme Optimization: Identify methods to improve enzyme performance, such as enhancing activity, stability, and specificity.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including biochemists, biotechnologists, and researchers, to develop enzyme-based solutions.
  • Data Analysis: Analyze and interpret research data, prepare reports, and publish research findings in scientific journals.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that enzyme research and production adhere to relevant regulations and safety standards.

  • Assist manager with any projects or initiatives as requested.
  • Participate in projects, committees or tasks forces as assigned by departmental supervisor.
Additional Responsibilities:

This includes but not limited to the following:

  • Generally aware of best practices and business/industry trends in enzyme.
  • Participate in VC/audio calls along with your manager and record the minutes as required.
